Tanzimat dönemi ve cumhuriyet sonrası çeviri çalışmaları örneğinde çevirinin toplumsal sistemin dönüşmesindeki etkisi
Abstract
Çevirilerin toplumsal sistemlerin
dönüşümüne etkisi, tarih boyunca kesintisiz süren bir olgudur. Luhmann’ın
sosyal sistem kuramından yola çıkarak, çevirinin toplumsal sistemlerdeki
rolünün, toplumsal sistemlerin hem kendi içinde ve hem de diğer sistemlerle
iletişimlerinde merkez role sahip olduğu söylenebilir. Luhmann’a göre Toplumsal
sistemlerin merkez kavramı olan iletişim, sistemlerin kendilerini düzenlemeleri
ve yenilemeleri için ana etkendir. Bu iletişimin tüm toplumsal sistemler için
çeviri aracılığıyla gerçekleştiği söylenebilir. Çevirinin, toplumların
dönüşümlerinde ve özellikle medeniyetlerin gelişmesinde oynadığ rol yadsınamaz.
Medeniyetlerin dönüşümlerine uzun
yıllar süren çeviri faaliyetlerinin yol açtığı da tarihi bir gerçekliktir. Bir
toplumsal sistem çeviriyle ne kadar yoğun bir uğraş içinde olmuşsa, medeniyet
tarihinde o derece öne çıkmıştır. Bir toplumun çeviriyle ilişkisi, toplumsal
gelecek için önemli bir yol haritasıdır. Çevirinin toplumsal sistemleri
dönüştürmesi, bir kültürün başka bir kültüre dönüşmesi anlamına gelmeyip,
ilgili toplumun kendini yenilemesi ve kendi sistemini yeniden üretmesine
yardımcı olması anlamındadır. Toplumsal sistemlerde değişen, kültürler değil,
medeniyetlerdir. Çevrinin rolü, toplumsal sistemlerin devamlı dışsal etkilerle
başka bir sisteme dönüşmesi değil, aksine bir toplumsal sistemin
devingenliğidir. Hilmi Ziya Ülken’in ayn başlığı taşıyan eserinin başlığına
yansıdığı şekliyle “medeniyetlerin gelişmesinde çevirinin rolü” tartışma
götürmezdir.

The impact of translation on the transformation of the social system as examined in translation studies of the reformation and post-republican eras
Abstract
The impact of translation on the transformation of social systems has
been an ongoing phenomenon throughout history. Setting off from Luhmann’s
social system theory, it can be suggested that translation plays a central role
in the communication of social systems both within themselves and with other
systems. According to Luhmann, communication, which is a central concept of
Social systems, is the main factor that enables systems to arrange and renew
themselves. It can be said that this communication takes place through
translation for all social systems. The role played by translation in the
transformation of societies, especially in the development of civilizations,
cannot be denied. It is also a fact that translation activities taking many
years have given rise to the transformation of civilizations. The more a social
system has been occupied in translation, the greater the role it has played in
the history of civilizations. A society’s relationship with translation
constitutes an important roadmap for the social future. Translation’s
transformation of a social system does not mean the transmutation of a culture
into another, but refers to the hand it lends to society in renewing itself and
reproducing its own system. It is
not cultures, but civilizations that change in social systems. The role played
by translation is not transforming social systems into another system through
continuous external influences, but the dynamism of a social system. As
reflected on the title of Hilmi Ziya Ülken’s work, “the role played by
translation in the development of civilizations” is beyond doubt.
