Abstract

Objective: In this study was aimed to reveal the relationship and interaction levels of perceived stress, coping with stress and compassion fatigue in nursing students.
Methods: 206 nursing students were included in the sample in this descriptive and relationship-seeking study. The data were collected with the "Personal Information Form", "Compassion Fatigue-Short Scale", "The Scale for Coping with Stress" and the "Perceived Stress Scale" prepared online. In the analysis of the data, the Spearman Correlation test and structural equality modeling were applied as well as descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation).
Results: 88.3% of the participants were female and the mean age was 22.14±5.69 years. Compassion fatigue was found to be negatively correlated with coping with stress and positively correlated with perceived stress. The established structural equation model is supported by the data. Nursing students' compassion fatigue levels are affected by perceived stress and coping with stress (p<0.05). In addition, in the established modeling, coping with stress does not have a mediating effect between compassion fatigue and perceived stress (p>0.05).
Conclusion: As a result, in line with these findings, it is recommended to conduct research on students' compassion fatigue levels and the variables that have a mediating effect. In addition, it is thought that providing trainings to increase the skills of coping with stress will have positive effects on both stress and compassion fatigue levels.

Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinde Algılanan Stres, Başetme ve Merhamet Yorgunluğu

Year 2023, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 437 - 444, 01.09.2023
https://doi.org/10.38108/ouhcd.1082241
