Determining the Awareness of Vocational School Students Regarding Cybersecurity: The Example of Ordu University
Abstract
This study aims to determine the cybersecurity awareness levels of vocational school students. In this context, the students' gender, departments, Internet usage frequency and purposes were taken into consideration. The study was conducted using the scanning method, which is among the quantitative studies. 403 students studying technical and social sciences participated in the study. After the normal distribution tests were performed on the quantitative data, the findings were obtained through nonparametric tests (Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test). Data on Internet usage frequency were analyzed using descriptive statistics techniques, and the findings were presented with percentage and frequency values. According to the findings the cybersecurity awareness levels of students studying technical and social sciences were high. Especially the students of computer technologies, public relations and business method departments differed positively from the others. Although the cybersecurity awareness level of tourism department students was high, it was lower than that of the others. Gender and Internet usage did not affect students’ awareness levels. Students mostly used the Internet for information, social media, games and entertainment purposes.
